Macleay Island

A small group of Bay Islands cocooned in the calm waters of Moreton Bay in the lee of North Stradbroke Island, Macleay, Lamb & Karragarra are connected to the mainland by ferries, barges and water taxis which operate from Redland Bay. Famed for their greenery, swimming beaches, fish stocks and succulent mudcrabs, the R.K.L.M. group are part of Redland City which conserves one of the largest concentration of mangroves in the greater Brisbane area. The Islands coastlines include significant stands of grey, red, orange, yellow and river mangroves. The islands are central to one of the great, protected aquatic and boating playgrounds on Australia's east coast. The waterway extends from the Broadwater on the Gold Coast to Moreton Bay and Brisbane. Island facilities include: Tavern, 9 hole golf course, 4 Square Supermarket, The Village Coffee Shop, The Village Butcher, Video & DVD outlet, Foodworks Supermarket, Bendigo Bank agency, 2 Hairdressers, Beautician, Blue Parrot Cafe & Restaurant, Curlew Cafe & Take away, community store, bakery, Jumbo Rok Takeaway, computer store, pet supplies, vet, primary school and pre school, bowls club boat club, art group, pottery group, ceramics group, play group, child care centre, primary school and pre-school, local doctor, chemist, ambulance, police station and volunteer fire brigade.
